WINGS OF HOPE HEAD WRAPPING CLASS 9-12-17

Image
So, yesterday on Sept. 12, I was invited to Wings of  Hope, a Cancer support establishment in Council Bluffs, IA to teach head wrapping to some ladies who are in the midst of chemo treatment. The women who run this place are so warm, and so welcoming, they set me up with anything I needed: a table a styrofoam head, (which they let me keep! Score!) We had a really good class, I gave them good leads for head coverings, as in Goodwill, Salvation Army, thrift stores, the websites I love, Middle Eastern Mall, The Little Tichel Lady, Wrapped In Beauty, Wrapunzel.com, Ali Express, Haute Hijab, etc. just depending on what they wanted to spend. and sent them towards videos on YouTube, besides demoing several tying styles of my own that I use and prefer. A lot of them like the basic turban, and that a good start. I pointed out a non-slip head band or a shaper would be a must if there is no hair, as the scarf will need something to hang on to.. It was one of the better classes, I feel...

DONATIONS

If anyone out there is comfortable with making donations of scarves, or shapers or non slip headbands, I would be very grateful! Scarves need to be long enough to go around the head, either oblong or Infinity, please no crochet or knit, as they are too thick, lol! Colors, prints don't matter. I wash them all once I get them, so no need to bother with that. Or your house of worship may have ladies who just aren't wearing them any more, or wearing some anymore.. Any and all would be appreciated. Please PM for mailing address if you can help!   It makes such a difference, Thank you!

Shenandoah Oncology and Infusion Clinic Visit

So, I had the meeting with the clinic at the Shenandoah clinic. It went very well, I think. The man I met and the nurses were very excited about it, and feel their clients would be too!  The gentleman I met is going to speak with marketing and the DON about getting a program set up, and fliers, etc etc. and they will run them by me first. I REALLY hope this works out, as the one locally was a bust. I am very disappointed in our local hospital. BUT, I am going to keep trying around the area, I wore the Girl in the Pearl Earring wrap, and took a gift bag to show them, and left it with the gentleman so he could show the higher ups and marketing what I do.       Fingers crossed!!! PS Just finally made contact with Clarinda Medical Health Center! They have 1 little lady, who has left, but they will talk to her cand get back to me. It's a start.

Making Contacts!

Hi Everyone!   Sorry I have not been on in a few weeks! I have been out there stumping like a political candidate (might not be the best analogy, given our political situation in the USA right now, lol!) BUT...I am talking to people, going to Family resource offices in hospitals, talking to Assisted Living facilities, SNF  (Skilled Nursing Facility,) units, more hospitals, cancer clinics, etc. So far, I have left my cards at a few places, and have a meeting set up next week, with a hospital, and a tentative class in a nearby town with a cancer recovery /treatment group, about a hour away! I AM SO EXCITED IF I CAN PULL THIS OFF!!! I hope there is enough interest in the classes!!!  I mean, it's free, and freewill donations to cover my gas and the headbands mainly, since I am unemployed, so what can that hurt? If they donate the do, if they don't they don't. I'll get there somehow. I have ordered new business cards with my email on it this time (D-uh!) and new gift ba...

Putting Out Feelers!

Hello Wrappers!   Today I called several local hospitals' Oncology Departments and left messages to see if they would be interested in a program to teach the women how to wrap! I certainly hope they call me back. I really want to get this off the ground. I am also going to look for clinics, and some other programs. Wish me luck! Any idea where to find inexpensive velvet non slip headbands? I have bought them on eBay before, from China, for $1-2 a piece. Wish.com doesn't seem to have them. can anyone out there in Blogland suggest anywhere I may be missing?     Thank you so much!  Much love and Blessings!!

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!   With those of you dealing with cancer, and the Healthcare Bill going possibly to vote soon, I was wondering: How will this affect your treatment if it passes? Would any of you be willing to share your stories out there in Blogland with the rest of us? I know a woman here in town who can't afford her treatments any more, as they are prohibitively expensive for her. That, IMO is criminal. People should be able to get treatments, no matter their finances. Questions? Comments? I look forward to hearing from you! Have a blessed day.  Opinions Above Are MY OWN.
